Discovery of the Path

Taking Inspiration from The Buddha

I chose to study the Buddha’s life as the theme for the rains retreat (vassa) this year, and it has been deeply inspiring and engaging. The Pali suttas tell us that the Buddha described his experiences as a Path of discovery. The Path led to ultimate peace then. And it still does.

Each one of us has the opportunity to experience some measure of peace by applying ourselves to this Path of practice, whether it is the peace of a quiet mind, the peace of settling the body, or the peace of knowing that you are living an ethical life. There are many ways we can touch into it but, no matter which kind of peace we discover, we can see for ourselves that peace brings clarity too.

This week I will take some time for personal retreat, resting in silence and spending more time in meditation. I appreciate the offerings of meals and other supports while I am away from the computer. That said, I will still offer the weekly online meditations, and I hope to see many of you then.

With you on the Path,
Ayya Dhammadīpā

Autumn has arrived and that means it’s time for the annual fundraisers for BGR. This year, there will be one online “Action to Feed the Hungry” for the Pacific and Mountain regions. This event will feature talks by Ven. Bhikkhu Bodhi, Ven. Lekshe Tsomo, and Ven. Thubten Chodron, among others.
